What the original account establishes
These notes distinguish the recorded result from quantities or settings the contributor did not specify. Follow each source link to the original passage.
- 8 bars of 200g Tesco chocolate at £3.68, 500g of Tate & Lyle royal icing sugar at £0.99, 500g of plain flour at £0.26 for rolling the icing and Super Cook blue colouring at £0.21, £5.14 in all. With no plan, the makers chose to make the chocolate first and cover it afterwards: 4 bars melted in the microwave went into a non-stick wok and the wok into the fridge, and the chocolate would not come out until the wok was turned upside down, switched on and treated with violence, which is why the result was lumpy. More melted chocolate was cooled in the wok until nearly set, dropped onto the first half and released the same way, and leftover chocolate went into cornflake cakes that someone ate before the photograph. The royal icing with blue colouring was like stirring concrete, rolled in flour, lifted with two spatulas, flopped onto the Smartie and left a day to set, then the other side was done the same way. The result was about 2Kg of Smartie; having weighed a box at 50g with 44 inside, about 1 gram each, the makers call it 2000 to 1 and could not explain the blotches. Turn it over and do it again. And here is the result, about 2Kg of smartie. Having weighed a box at 50g with 44 of them inside I’d say they come at about 1 gram each. So at 2000 to 1 that is a BIG smartie. Not sure why it went blotchy. I’ll try not to loose any sleep about that. With all that colouring maybe we won’t sleep for a few days anyway.

The original account
This seemed to be a fun one to try as people have done nearly everything there is so far.

In the beginning there was no plan. It was a toss up to make the shell first and fill the two halves then glue them together or make two halves glue them together then put the shell on. We decided to go for make it then cover it.
So, 4 bars of chocolate for the first half went in the microwave. And then into the non stick wok.

Then the wok went into the fridge for a while. As for its non stick properties, I don’t want to talk about that. The chocolate was NOT coming out. So it was a case of wok upside down and turn it on. Then apply violence to it until it lets go of its contents. Which it did eventually. This is why the end result was a bit lumpy.

Then more melted chocolate in the wok, let it cool until nearly set drop on the first half. Back into the fridge and now we have the chocolate bit done.

As before upside down and plug it in again to release the smartie. One big smartie shaped lump of chocolate.

So to not let any chocolate go to waste, add some cornflakes and, BONUS!! I made a few more than this but someone ate them before I got to take the photo. He still wonders how I knew it was him.

The blue shell was going to be tricky. Royal icing and blue colouring. Tell you what, use an electric mixer if you have access to one, this stuff is a bit like stirring concrete.

That is the reason for the flour. To stop the icing sticking to everything. Roll it out and with two spatula thingies and great skill lift the big blue disk up and flop it onto the smartie, then wait a day for it to set enough.
