The short version

Pimp That Snack is a static archive. There are no accounts, no logins, no forms, no payments and no submissions — the site stopped accepting those years ago. Nothing you do here is stored by us.

It does load two things from Google — analytics and advertising — and both set cookies. They are described in full below. Everything else the page needs, including the typeface, is served from this site.

What we collect ourselves

Nothing. The site is a set of files in storage served through a content delivery network, and access logging is switched off, so we hold no record of who visited, from where, or when. We could not identify you from anything we keep, because we keep nothing.

The search box works entirely inside your browser. It downloads a small index of page titles and searches it locally — what you type is never sent anywhere.

If you pick a light or dark theme, that choice is remembered in your own browser's local storage under the name pts-theme. It never leaves your device, it is not a cookie, and it is not sent to us or to anyone else. Choosing "follow system" deletes it.

Third parties that do collect something

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people read, which is what tells us the archive is still worth keeping online. It sets cookies and records your approximate location, device and the pages you visit. Google processes this on our behalf. See Google's privacy policy and their note on how Analytics uses data.

Google AdSense

The site carries advertising through Google AdSense, which pays for the hosting and very little else. AdSense sets cookies and may show you personalised advertising based on your browsing, if you have consented to that. You can review and change what Google uses at My Ad Center, and opt out of personalised advertising entirely at Google's ad settings.

YouTube, on the videos and media pages

The videos and media pages show thumbnail images served by YouTube, which means YouTube sees your IP address on those pages. No video player loads until you click one. When you do, it loads from youtube-nocookie.com, which does not set tracking cookies unless you play the video.

Sharing buttons

The share links at the foot of each project are ordinary hyperlinks. Nothing is loaded from Facebook, X, Reddit, Pinterest, Bluesky or WhatsApp, and none of them know you were here, unless you click one.

Cookies and your choice

The only cookies come from Google Analytics and AdSense. Under UK law we need your consent before setting them, so you will be asked on your first visit through Google's consent notice. You can change your answer at any time from the link in that notice, or by clearing this site's cookies in your browser.

Declining does not break anything. The archive works identically either way.

If you contributed a pimp

Between 2006 and 2015, 449 people sent in a snack along with their photographs and a name to publish it under. Those names, write-ups and photographs are still on the site — that is what the archive is.

If one of them is yours and you would rather it were not here, or you want your name removed or changed, email us and we will do it. You do not have to give a reason, and there is no form.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to how it is used, and to have it provided in a portable form. Since we hold no visitor data, in practice these apply to contributor content and to the data Google holds — for the latter, ask Google directly.

How long things are kept

The archive itself is intended to stay online indefinitely — that is the whole point of it. Google's retention of analytics and advertising data is governed by their policies, not ours.

Changes

If what the site loads changes, this page changes with it, and the review date at the top moves. There is no mailing list to notify.
