Two-tone Monster Mallow: the archived recipe

Condensed from the original account by CW, published 2007-08-16. The quantities and method are the contributor’s; this is not a new kitchen test.

Ingredients recorded

  • 1 tub of Haribo party marshmallows, £1.99
  • 3 packs of Sainsburys marshmallows, 69p x 3
  • 1 pack of cornflour, 39p
  • 1 pack of greaseproof paper, £2.20
  • A little butter to stick the paper to the tub

The marshmallows are counted by tub and pack with no weights written, as the account gives them; the prices were £1.99, 69p x 3, 39p and £2.20. The microwave times are not given.

Method recorded

  1. Empty the tub of marshmallows and line it with greaseproof paper, using butter to stick it to the sides; make sure it is nice and even so the monster mallow is not deformed.
  2. Melt the Haribo marshmallows first in the microwave; these give the mallow its yellow colour. Keep melting, prodding and turning until gloopy enough to pour into the mould.
  3. Make the second, pink layer the same way with the Sainsburys marshmallows and pour it on; it should run off the spoon.
  4. Leave the marshmallow in the mould overnight to set.
  5. Let the beast slide out of the mould, cut the paper from around the sides, which takes a very long time, then lightly dust with cornflour.

is nice and even, so you dont get a deformed monster marshmallow.

These are our haribo marshmallows, we melted these
first using the microwave. These will give out mallow its yellowey colour
🙂

This is our second pink layer of mallows, made with
the Sainsburys marshmallows. Note how it runs off the spoon. (and into
our mouths).

After leaving the marshmallow in the mould overnight
to set, let the beast slide out the mould. Cut the paper from around the
side (takes a very long time). Then lightly dust with cornflour.

Can you spot the difference?

I’m just gonna chomp my mouth and if you get in the
way it’s your own fault.

I’m sorry oh masterful mallow, you are king of all
the mallows (and you have 2 colours :0)
