What the original account establishes

  • Inspired by Asda’s chocolate caramel Rice Krispie bars. Ingredients: Rice Krispies at £2.29, 2 large bars of chocolate at £1.98 and a bag of Werther’s Original, the hard ones, though the chewy ones might have been better, with home-made caramel of butter, sugar and syrup as the fallback, probably about £3.00. Unwrapping the Werther’s took about eight minutes; they went into a glass dish over a pan of boiling water and melted very slowly, and after 10 a tablespoon of milk went in. They would not melt properly and came close to burning, so the semi-soft mush was scraped into a pan with butter and golden syrup, and Demerara sugar was added until it was gooey. The caramel was mixed into a bowl of Rice Krispies, not too thick, packed tightly into a dish and left to cool. Turned out upside down on greaseproof paper, it was coated with one bar of chocolate, melted over water or in the microwave in 10 bursts, and set in the fridge; then it was turned the right way up and coated with the other bar. The original account

After pinching one of my mum and dads ‘Chocolate caramel covered rice krispies’ from ASDA, I instantly thought:"I could so pimp this!" Reletively easy pimp, consisting of:

Rice Krispies(£2.29)
2 large bars of chocolate(£1.98)
1 bag of Werthers Original(I used the hard ones, although the chewey ones might have been a better idea)
Onwards with the pimp!
–In the event that it all goes wrong with the werthers–
Caramel(home made, butter sugar and syrup, probably about £3.00)

A box of Rice Krispies with two milk chocolate bars and a pack of butter candies

Spend about eight minutes unwrapping all the damn werthers,

A bowl of unwrapped butter candies surrounded by their discarded gold wrappers

Place them in a glass dish, over a pan of boiling water.

A hand stirring the toffees melting down into sticky caramel in a small pan on the hob

Wow these things melt slowly.

After afew(10) pour on a tablespoon of milk(unless its actually turned into a runny goop, as appose to the slightly soft stuff that I got). Wait some more…

DISASTER

The werther’s wouldnt melt properly, and it was getting closer and closer to burning.

Big Daddy to the rescue! scrape out all the semi-soft werther’s mush, and place it in a pan with some butter, and golden syrup. Mix it up for awhile, then add the Demerara sugar, until its a nice goopy consistancy. Wipe the copius amounts of sweat from your brow, and prepare for the fun bit(mashing).

Add the caramel to a bowl full of Rice Krispies, and mix. There should be enough to make the mixture nice and thick. Not too thick though, otherwise it’ll be sickly.

Rice Krispies stirred into the melted caramel in a large white mixing bowl

Once you’ve got the mixture to the right consistancy, pack it tightly into a big dish/pan, and leave it to cool.

The caramel krispie mixture pressed flat into a foil-lined oval dish

After its cooled,

The pressed krispie base filling the foil-lined dish, waiting for its chocolate topping

Take the krispie out of the dish/pan, and place it upside down on some greaseproof paper/tinfoil, and get your chocolate melting cap on.

You can either melt it over a pan of boiling water(I couldnt do this, cause they’re was still some Werther’s goo stuck to my glass dish), or melt it in the microwave(in 10 bursts, so as not to burn it). (Only do one bar for now)

A bowl of melted milk chocolate with a knife resting in it

Spoon on the chocolate(dont pour it, there’s should only be enough to lightly cover it), and once you’ve gotten the sides and bottom of it done, stick it in the fridge, and wait…

Melted chocolate spread over the top of the krispie slab and running down its sides

Once the chocolate has set, take it out of the fridge, and turn it right ways up. Melt the other bar of chocolate, and spoon it on. Back in the fridge.

The finished slab fully coated in set chocolate, sitting on crumpled foil

Once its all nice and set, take it out of the fridge. Get your sharpest knife out, cause this badboy is hard to cut(although surprisingly easy to eat).
Thats a pimp complete, innit, safe etc.
