Cut out milk

  1. No I'm Sparticus Sat Jan 27, 2007 3:33 am #1
Stopped using milk in November (probably had about half a pint a day before)

Lost over a stone with no other changes (15.5 to 14.3)

No longer get an acid stomach even after curry and beer. Unless I forget and have a cappachino whilst the wife's shopping and I'm bored. Then it reappears although it may be due to her spending [Very Happy]

Really? No milk? I have skimmed, anything else tastes like sickly cream.

I couldn't have tea and coffee black, I tried it for a while but it just wasn't worth it.

i have to disagree with this one - cutting down to soy or skimmed is a better idea in the long run

not having milk can lead to osteoporosis (no idea how to spell that), and calcium is vital for fat burning.

i'm currently having soy milk.yoghurts etc instead of normal ones, which not only helps with fat intake, but also has more protein, so i dont get hungry

The reason you got a dodgy stomach after having anything with too much milk or cream in is probably due to a dairy intolerance, I have to agree with pesky on this one, cutting out milk altogther is a bad idea - its certainly not for everyone! Maybe get checked out and see if it is an allergy

    ermmmm maby from milk lol.

Although milk is loaded with calcium, we can't actually absorb it from milk. I think that it is because there is fat present, we don't absorb it. So, we don't get a lot of calcium from milk.
Here's another one... A study has shown that eating cheese (especially hard cheese, like parmesan) actually causes your bones to loose the calcium. This is because the cheese causes the blood to be acidic, the body attempts to compensate by taking calcium from the bones to make the blood alkiline.

We get calcium from veggies and water. Most mineral water has good levels of calcium... As long as your not drinking it with fats, then you absorb it. So, it is ok to drop milk. I know this is contrary to what we have been told... Guess who told you this: The guys who are trying to sell you milk.

I must admit I love milk... in my cappucino. But it is kinda wierd, drinking milk from another species. Milk is made for babies and changes over the course of the childs development. I think we are the only creature to drink another's milk.

    [Shocked]

I take a multi-vitimin most days so I think I'm ok. But on the subject of misadvertised goods, we recently discovered that 'Multivitimins' vs. 'Multivitimins with Iron', both contained the exact same amount of iron per tablet.

    What's that about?
  10. em'n'mz Mon Jan 29, 2007 8:05 pm #10
nothing accept they can charge more if they say there is extra iron becasue thoses who are slightly anemic will buy it rather than that without the label for iron

I think we're the only animal that eats milk post weaning.
  12. pimpdaddy Wed Jan 31, 2007 5:45 pm #12
Other Animals are missing out. If we did what cows do, we'd regurgitate our breakfast and chew it again for lunch. Yummy.

Yes, they're all in my cupboard under the stairs, the noise I can can cope with, clacking of antlers and the odd Carol, what grates is their appetite for mince pies ,I mean, at Christmas we all have an excess of mince pies and can accommodate thier lust, but what about the rest of the year?

Yes, you rest easy whilst I lie in torment.

hey cmon.. cats wouldn't drink milk if we didn't give it to them. You cant include them, surely. Hedgehogs do drink milk, but only from dogs. And reindeer? I dunno... Do they? Maybe at night, when no one is looking.

    how do you know?

it's just that i can't imagine a cat going up to a cow and sucking on it. That just seems kinda unlikely. hmm, okay so they would drink it from bottles of milk left on doorsteps, but y'know thats us again... not something they'd do if we weren't here to provide it to them in handy bottled form.

I haven't read the next page yet so may be repeating someone. You shouldn't feed cats milk. They should only have fresh water. Ask your vet. I'd forgotten about this one, but I think it strengthens my original point [Very Happy]

I meant that eats milk naturally without human intervention. I once tried to feed a cat vodka milk (it wasn't interested) but a friends cat had a taste for red wine!
  22. No I'm Sparticus Thu Feb 01, 2007 9:12 pm #22
Red wine is good for you and anyone who says otherwise should be banned from the internet. Cats who like red wine should be trained to use the internet.

As Hedgehogs have a high cuteness factor they shouldn't be exposed to the net in case they are corrupted by sites featuring newly net literate cats (as they can lick their own bits) This may mean Hedgehogs get ideas and stay curled up forever.

Don't be fooled by the cuteness, never turn your back on a hedgehog, especially one with an idea.

There's a lot of anti-milk talk on the 'net (if you look at the nutrition part of the forums over at www.crossfit.com you'll find loads of info, mostly against drinking milk). However, if I couldn't have my measley bit of skimmed milk in my cuppa my life wouldn't be worth living, so I'll take that risk. [Smile]

    Milk makes me bloated!!!!
  29. Cal Tue May 01, 2007 1:41 pm #29
One thing, actually. I'm still having skim milk in tea and the odd bit of cheese, but the most remarkable thing for me has happened after cutting grains from my diet - all my adult acne has gone.

I refuse to cut anything entirely from my diet but things like bread, pasta etc (oh and chocolate) are now a special treat rather than an everyday thing, and I feel so much better for it.
