    This site often reminds me of biscuits I used to eat but for some reason stopped eating them. I used to eat those biscuits with the circular hole in the middle. It had some sort of jam in the middle (although the jam wasn't liquid but it was squishy) and it was covered in sugar. I also used to eat Tunnocks Teacakes.

    Did any of you just stop eating something for no particular reason?

    as i'm always carping on about coconut boosts and how much i miss them, that's what i'm planning on making next. maybe when leeds are playing on sunday?

    Striper Bars
    Does anyone remember these at all?

    Rowntree-made chewy, striped thing with a different pseudo-fruity flavour in each stripe. "Four times the flavour, four times the chew!" ran the multi-coloured wedding advert.

    sort of, but not very well.

    it did remind me of something though - does anyone else remember PACERS as well? they were advertised with ice skaters and tasted of mints

    I loved these:
    Bone Shakers - bone shaped chalky candy pieces that came in different coloured coffin shaped plastic boxes. The sweets were tastless, but the coffins were ace.

    my weekends were just spent in the sweet shop when I was a kid.
    At school when people talked about what they wanted to do when they were older (nurse, teacher etc), I just remember thinking that I wanted to own a sweet shop!

    I used to collect those Kinder Egg toys. Not the plastic things, the sets of animals or whatever. I had to have one on my way back home from primary school each day.

    I used to get these minty meringue type bars with chocolate covering from our school tuck shop yeeeeaaars ago. And also Woolworths used to sell some fudge type bars, but more crystalised than the usual fudge and bigger and flatter. They were yummy. No idea what either were called though. Oh and fish and chip crisps!!!

    real chocolate for me has to be thin,dark and very bitter at least 70% coco solids and never ever chew it it must melt in your mouth for the complex flavors to fully develop it sounds a bit poncy but get some and try it its fantastic.
    milk choc is a poor younger brother and white is not chocolate at all but just a mix of fats and rubbish.

    I wanted to buy some chocolate the other day and I was definately thinking about buying some 'Green & Blacks' after reading reviews about it on these forums.

    The problem was, I didn't have enough cash on me to buy it though - considerably more expensive than the sainsburys version I ended up buying.
    Next time I will make sure I have enough money on me to buy it and taste the difference!!

    Continuing with the theme of "Snacks you used to eat", I'll have to go with those sherbert dippers. A few varieties, such as the tube with the stick of liquorice, or the square bags with lollies! [Smile] I haven't had any of that in years and years...

    Well you can deffinitley still get them coz I had some recently. Although not the liquorice ones ... I didn't like them much. Mmmmmmmmmm sherbet

    I love dib dabs still - they have the best sherbet. But I also don't like the liquorice ones since I don't like liquorice!

    I can't really think of any snacks which I *used* to eat and don't anymore. I obviously have trouble letting go of my childhood. I think that's allowed if you're not quite 18 yet (went to disney for an early birthday present, for example)

    Oh - I can't eat gold bars anymore, which I used to love. That's because I got gastric flu or something of that ilk the day after eating quite a few. I also run screaming from creme brulee for the same reason!

    Throwing up all night can really put a crimp on your sweetie enjoyment. [Rolling Eyes]

    I remember the days (although I'm sure you still can) where you could buy bags of sherbert in quarter or half pounds. You'd get it in different flavours but it was insane, it was basically flavoured sugar.

    I only ever once came across that really. Alas, when I managed to get the parents to equip me with money all those lovely big bags of sherbet were sold!

    It was deeply distressing.

    What about Northumberland Fudge then, I lived on quarter bags of that as a kid?

    Dished out by the old lady in the grotty shop over the road from us, fag always hanging out her mouth and a can of peas from the fifties in her shop window.

    read that (on Google) as well beckly but there were no nuts in it all as far as far as I remember, Northurberland Fudge, it was kind of fudgy nuggets all cobbed together with chocolate flavoured coating but it tasted lovely, all knobbly like and quite cheap by the quarter (25p!!!)

    I like posh choc too (Green and Black's is nice, especially the dark chocolate cherry and the Maya Gold - but also try Marks and Spencer's fair trade dark chocolate with cocoa nibs. Fantastic!). But I still enjoy the odd bar of Cadbury's!
    Mind you, when it comes to chocolates, I am very discerning. After sampling the uber expensive chocs of Hotel Chocolate, most other chocs taste like crap. Even Thorntons.

    As for snacks I used to enjoy as a kid, I do miss a lot of the old ice creams and lollies!
    Anyone remember when they introduced King Cones, they also had King Stick (an ice cream lolly with chocolate and chopped nuts) and King Sandwich vanilla ice cream in chocolate cookies.
    Then they did yogurt cone, which was a strawberry yogurt flavour and gorgeous. That was around 1977 I think.
    I also miss rapsberry Cornettos (1981) as the zingy raspberry was perfect with the sweet vanilla ice cream.

    As a younger child I enjoyed these heart shaped lollies (basically a heart shaped choc ice on a stick with strawberry ripple going through the ice cream) - can't remember the name. I was about 4-5 when I had those so this would've been early 70s.

    Then there was Lollygobblechocbomb (ice cream covered in 100s and 1000s/jimmies with a chocolate centre) which I liked because of the silly name...

    A Dracula lolly which had black ice and a "bleeding" jam centre...and Haunted House which was vanilla ice cream with a blue ghost or monster painted on the ice cream.

    Of course I also had the usual orange lollies, rapsberry Mivvis and Sky Rays but ice cream ones were my fave!

    OOOhh, memories [Very Happy] DO you rememebr crazy feet too? Edit - Funny feet?

    When I was about 5, I used to walk up to the ice-cream van with whatever money I could fine (usually a loose copper) and hand it over. THey guy could have turned me away but he always used to give me a mini cone (the bottom bit of a cone) with a small dollop if ice-cream. Best ice-cream van man evar [Very Happy]

    Agh, I feckin' LOVE Twisters! And funny feet, and pretty much every other ice-creamy snack in the world. [Very Happy] I also love Fab's, and my mate Dave told me they were on special offer in Tescos the other week - packs of 8 were BOGOF, he had 16 Fab's in his freezer! [Surprised] [Laughing]

    Those Dracula lollies were nice too, the red blood stuff was yum!

    You're right, I haven't had a funny foot in years but they never used to have chocolate on them. Bah!

    Ah Funny Faces were much older than the feet. They were nice though... kinda neopolitan ice cream in a face shape I think. But you're talking 30 years ago at least!

    What about oysters - the shell shaped wafer with marshmallow and ice cream (only sold from ice cream vans). THink they had coconut on them too.

    Well I'm 33 and they stll had funny faces in my living memory so maybe 20 years back?

    Oysters rock [Very Happy] I still buy them from the Ice-cream man now. They're wafer in the shape of a shell joined at one end with marshmallow (inside) and chocolate with coconut sprinkled on top (outside)and then filled with that mr softee ice-cream. oysters > 99's

    Borrow some kids for a day, they'll sniff out an ice-cream van from miles away. My theory is the vans play a special sound wave kind of like the dog whistle type things that only they can hear

    This thoery could be true Himji, however I always hear our local ice cream van (it plays the theme tune to captain pugwash - another 80's cartoon). This may also mean that although I am 30 on the outside, I'm about 7 on the inside [Laughing]

    myspace doesn't sux but then again im only 15 but me n m8 came across this site we're now gonna make sumthin and make a mess in my kitchen so we can have an abnormally large chocolate snack to take to skl because we're mad like that!! [Laughing] me being to young have no idea y you think its children who seek out ice rcream vans because my nephews dont but his parents do.
