As you can see, our definition of 'week' is a bit variable. It's more like website of the fortnight-ish and a bit. This is just a collection of things we've found or that have been submitted to us that we think are worthy of promotion or just funny and ridiculous.
The Chloe Janet Ball Trust was set up by the family of a young girl with Cystic Fibroris who died while waiting for a double lung transplant. The charity is unique in that it doesn't seek to cure the disease, or raise awareness about anything. It's sole purpose is to make special and memorable gifts to those who struggle with this disease on a daily basis. This is a particularly great cause because it focuses on the individuals who need a bright, happy day now and then.
The chaps at The Escapist Magazine have recently comissioned a series of videos from the unique talented Ben 'Yahtzee' Croshaw, a Brit now living in Australia that has a way of reviewing games in a style aptly named Zero Punctuation.
It involves Mr Yahtzee talking literally without pause while reviewing video games to the backdrop of a delightfully simple yet hilarious flash-based animation. The whole way it's put together chimes a chord in my sense of humour and subsequently I'm now watching The Escapist website like a hawk every Wednesday when a new 'review' is released.
To make it very easy on you, here's what he's put together so far. Even if you haven't played the games the reviews are intensely funny and worth watching:
Holy moly I'm lazy - has it really been 3 months since my last website? Clearly I need more people helping out on the site, I've too much to do!
Anyway, this isn't a typical 'website' of the week (month, year, whenever I remember this section still exists) in that I'm linking to a YouTube profile. However this person's videos are so unremittingly genius that I can't hold back any longer. Brandon Hardesty is someone that is going places, either with acting, or choreography, or as a general film production guy.
He demonstrates his talent on YouTube in the form of re-enactment videos, re-enacting memorable scenes from classic films. All of these are excellent, the impressions are of a high quality and in some cases unnervingly accurate. I am going to single out three that I think you should watch, however all of them are worth going through:
Like Bill Bailey? Dara O'Brien? Hilarious comedy in general? Then this is certainly a gig for you. The 'Laughter For Life!' charity event is a comedy night hosted by Bill Bailey and featuring a star-studded line up including Dara O'Briain, Ian Stone, Glenn Wool and Rob Rouse - at:
The event is being held to raise awareness of the chronic lack of organ donors in the UK and the desperate wait faced by those on the transplant list. The night will also raise much needed funding for the post of a specialist Donor Coordinator (employed by HarefieldHospital) to improve transplant and organ donor facilities in the South of England. Some £60,000 is required to sponsor the post for one year.
More trekking abroad for charitable reasons! This time three chaps are heading from Plymouth to Banjul (Gambia) to raise £10,000 for charity. They're trying to raise £5000 a piece for Tearfund and Macmillan Cancer Support. At £6300, they're doing quite well so far and we've tried to help them along by buying a spot of sponsorship on their car. It's very swish-looking but can it go the distance? Stay tuned to their regularly updated blog to find out!
This website of the week thing is getting a bit 'website of the whenever I come across a website I like'. Nevermind, in a shameless act of self-promotion, we're asking people to visit our Just Giving donation page to help raise money for Transplants in Mind - a national UK charity that helps raise awareness of organ donation. We're doing this in the run-up to Christmas in the hope that we can give them a nice gift to help them on their way in 2007. Please have a look and if you can afford £1, please donate. Thanks!
This website has had me laughing my rotund arse off all morning. The Pete Collective is an initiative attempting to gather 2000 people called 'Pete' (or Peter) together in one place at once time. Given the Pimp Daddy is also called Pete, this is of some great interest.
The sheer scale of effort that has gone behind this persistant propagation of pimping the personage of the Pete is truly profound. If you yourself are a Pete I would highly advise you to join the fight now! The fight to, erm, break a world record!
Now this is a good one. Once again, in the name of charity (Macmillan Nurses this time), a bloke called James Gregson decided it would be a really good idea to not shave his facial hair at all for a full year. This includes not cutting or trimming it at all. Currently James is 10 weeks in and is starting to look like a proper tramp. You can see his progress from earlier weeks and I'm quite keen to see what he looks like at week 20!
Two very strange chaps called Paul and Ben have just set off in a small and crappy car from Oswestry, England, on an 8000 mile car journey to Mongolia. Why would they do this? In the name of charity of course! They're supporting two different charities hoping to raise £650 for each. They're nearly at their target for Send a Cow but could still do with at least another £400 donated for the Mercy Corps peeps.
These are worthy charities and their effort is truely strange and bizarre. Help them out with a quid or two!
To kick off 'Website of the Week' Pimp Daddy has chosen the 'Live Life then Give Life' awareness campaign run by Emily Thackray, a lovely young lady pimp on our website responsible for our Pimped Licorice Allsorts.
The website seeks to raise awareness of organ donation and the very great need for more organ donors in the UK. Having been made aware of this, Pimp Daddy has himself signed up and would urge anyone else with organs going spare to do the same.
I'm fairly confident I won't be needing them after I pop my pimpin' clogs at some point in the future, and generally reckon my organs are in pretty top condition otherwise. If anyone is currently looking for the donation of a large gut I can probably help you out immediately.
