So with that famously wonderful night known throughout Europe on theway (The Eurovision Song Contest) we knew that we had to make something suitably huge to commemorate it. A quick scan of the pimp that snack site later, and we were still completely in the dark as to what we could create... until that is a phonecall from the Linzi-winzi from a dark and dingy MandS store with a brainwave that there was something that could make it 'big'... and so the monster caterpillarcake was born.
A frantic Saturday morning trip around the local morrisons ensued-including buying random sweets for no reason other than fun- and therealisation that the only chocolate cake they had suitable for pimping was in-fact the best, also the terrible realisation that giant smarties seem to have disappeared from our shelves (maybe the hextubes destroyed them).
Luckily for the caterpillar we managed to find big fruit smarties instead, w00t!
So yes onto the makege!
The cakes were downsized on one edge to allow them to stand up un-assisted and the remaining parts were used to create thecatterpillars 'ridges'.
This involved a fair bit of smooshing of cake, and licking offingers... mmmmhmmm.
Once all the caterpillar was in place then came the chocolate joy. No problems with melting it in the microwave for us, though we quickly realised that the smooshed cake seemed to like falling to the base ofthe caterpillar along with the chocolate.
Into the fridge went the monstrosity- and thank goodness it just fit(with some cutting down of its glorious silver plinth!).
