    Can anyone explain why on Earth my biology teacher decides to give us an essay which requires a vast amount of research two days before half term? I have now spent almost five hours typing and doing research... curse New Scientist. Does anyone else have this problem?

    Being 23, no. But for some reason I've just decided to do a second course with the Open University which will suck at least 12 hours out of my week. It's strange doing education because you want to, rather than because you have to. [Smile]

    23?! 23!? I thought you might be older than that...
    Still, I'm only 21.

    What course on OU are you doing and why? And what other education qualifications have you reached?

    I am curious because I am currently doing a Physics degree and I don't think I could handle any more education after this!

    I'm doing a BA in Business - because it's interesting and I want to do it [Wink] I already have BSc in Computer Science. Fun eh?

    wow
    ye teachers have never been nice about hw over half term. i have maths, french and science hw to do and over xmas i have to revise over every subject im taking for my gcse because we have mocks the week we get back. chirstmas is going to have all the fun sucked out of it.
    but on an up side its totps and my skl on friday [Very Happy] and non-uniform day so alls good [Very Happy]

    I have to write a 2000 word essay on "All of biological knowledge is built on our understanding of genetics" so I'll have to write about several specific things, which then means I have to think of things to put in the essay and then I'll have to research them because I don't know!

    I'm contemplating my first assessed uni essay at the moment. It's the research aspect that's worrying me! I'm not used to researching and then using that information in essays! Scary stuff [Sad]

    mocks... don't go crazy on them... i did very little work... the main thing is NOT to ruin chrimbo...

    i have REAL AS exams in january though [Sad]

    so i'll have to work...

    I did well with AS... mainly thanks to the boyfriend dumping me and leaving me with less to do with my days!

    A levels I wasn't such a good student with however!

    Still, now I'll be good at uni... honestly... hopefully!

    Make sure you do well in your AS levels. You get the same number of marks as you do for A2 but it's easier. Doing well in my AS meant I didn't have to work so hard in A2.

    But don't worry if you don't do well since there's so much opertunity and a lot of people go up from AS.

    It's a bad system since the AS means you do what is essentially one years work in two terms and then have to try and start the A2 course straight afterwards!

    Oh! Also - if you don't do well convince your teachers to give you higher grade estimates than just your AS grades. That way even if you don't manage it for A2 you have more chance of getting your university place of choice anyway!

    Most teachers do this as a matter of course, really. But some need persuassion.
