Having eaten my supper this evening, I raided the freezer for a late night frozen snack and decided on one of my favourites, the Fruit Pastille Lolly.
Imagine my surprise (and leaving me slightly spooked), when checking in for new pimps to see the new amazing 20 KILO Fruit Pastille lolly on the project list. Fantastic!! Is that the heaviest Pimp so far???
I have been considering frozen pimps for a couple of weeks now and am working on a master plan to pimp a FAB ... although I am tempted by your Twister challenge PD [Wink]
[Wink] Sorry to put a downer on the ice lolly BUT big though it is I personally go for acuracy over size (ahem) my favourite at the moment is the giant matchmaker.
You could always add some stick arms, a couple of bits of coal, a carrot and a hat - Hey Presto "Fruit Pastille Lolly Man" and then settle down and watch it melt away into a beautiful sticky rainbow puddle.
the poor lolly died only 6 hours after its creation! [Sad]
it was a warm day, and after only a few minutes it was dripping like a.. well... a giant melting lolly!
i had a lick and it tasted fab, and i'm pretty sure the ants loved it too judging by how many came to visit the drips...
I personally really dislike fruit pastille lollies, but that pimp is incredible! Top notch stuff there, and I think there's something to be said about a person who sacrifices their freezer space for pimping. XD
I wish you'd made that back when we were all being inundated with that humid heatwave a month or two back ( then again, we'd all probably be seething with envy... XD ).
To add to other points in the thread, I'd love to see a Twister, as well. That'd be awesome. *laughs*
I can't believe you've just said that. We've got posts all over the place saying EXACTLY THAT. I've even offered a free t-shirt to the first person that does it.

i was very excited when i saw this pimp but im with time 4 a biscuit - impressive as the size may be the accuracy is just not there. the fruit pastille lolly isnt several entirely seperate segments on a square stick! its one whole piece on a traditional lolly stick.
people may accuse me of being bias as maker of the 13kg wagon wheel currently in 16th place but i do think accuracy is important. the stick should have been made the correct shape and the lolly made in one piece. a custom mould would be easily constructed for such an effort though a chest freezer would be essential. and a one piece mould would eliminate the whole drilling holes thing.
and whats the pink layer? bit food colouring would match the real thing perfectly. aside from that one layer the others are spot on though, very impressive!
a damn good pimp but i feel over rated because of its size
i would try and make a perfect one myself (probably bigger though just for stupidities sake) but the challenge of the twister lolly is calling to me just need to ring me mates and see if any of themj have a chest freezer for me to borrow [Wink]
yes - i wondered when someone would notice the 2 tone wagon wheel
however un like the fruit pastille lolly the wagon wheel was never intended to be the wrong colour and would have been absolutely prefect has the good people of tesco had in stock 10kg of value plain chocolate.
which in fariness they did - it's just that we had a little too much to drink and left 5kg of it on the hob overnight which rendered it pretty useless. on retuning to tesco the next day they were out of milk chocolate (cant think why) and we had to resign to using plain chcolate for a bit instead due to the time constarint of it being a birthday present.
however the method of construction with the right amout of milk chocolate would produce a perfect wagon wheel - the fruit pastille lolly, great as it may be, requires a different method entirely if you wish to create a true pimped version.
Dunno, I think perhaps it is being a bit anal and taking the spirit out of it to say its naff because it is inaccurate.. If you were going to be like that, you could quite easily say that the wagon wheel isn't actually layers of crushed biscuit but a purposefully formed biscuit and it isn't a solid cylinder shape as the chocolate is a thin layer over each biscuit with it going inwards where the marshmallow is rather than straight down (..and more, I could say just as much on the pimps that my friends and I made too, our wagon wheel biscuits were a bit thick and we only had one layer of the wrong coloured marshmallow)
But I don't see that as really relevant. Someone has had fun making something stupidly oversized. I certainly found it highly amusing and the sheer weight of your wagon wheel is something too.

now i never ever said it was naff! and to the folks who made it i just want you to know i do not think its naff! not at all! in fact i'd love that lolly to chomp down on!!!! what i said was that it was a damned good pimp! i merely said i think its size has resulted in it being over rated as it's not an accurate pimp. big as it may be, impressive as it may be it is not the best pimp on here because it does not look like the real thing!
maybe i got the wrong idea but i understood this site to be about taking a regular snack and recreating it as accurately as possible but a load larger!
and tha wagon wheel is more crushed buscuit than a solid biscuit, we tore several to pieces and crushed biscuit recreated the best texture. and believe or not we did start making each layer seperate as per the real thing but time constraints means a cylindrical mould was necessary.
as for the coloured marshmallow - we searched high and low for white marshmallow but no whjeres sells them! we were quite gutted as the pink marshmallow does spoil the ffect i agree - it would howver have almost doubled the cost to but mixed and only use the white ones.
dont get me wrong - i love th fruit pastille lolly - i just think as a method of contruction and as a final result it need some work.
as for it being about the fun and not the accuracy -
for me accurancy here is key here, that i believe is the whole point of the site. if you have fun making it then that great, i know we did, but if the end result is far from a scaled up version of what you were pimping then surely you have missed the point?
ps: animal cracker all the way - it's absolutely perfect! right down to the texture of the chocloate! exactly how a pimped snack should be done!
Of course you didn't say it was naff, gone off on a bit of a tangent there sorry! I think it would be extremely difficult to replicate the fruit pastille lolly accurately without some kind of flash freezer. Each of the flavours goes upwards well into the next. If you poured it all in at once it'd mix, if you froze one layer before adding another then the frozen layer is only going to melt. If it freezes quickly it'll maintain the distinct layers. The only other way round it would be to mould all the separate layers on their own then put them together with a little bit of extra juice to freeze them together.. I think you'd need several freezers and and quite some skill with moulding for that though!
As to what this site is about, well I guess its a few different things really. Some people just want to make something stupidly big or heavy, others want to do the fiddly stuff. The ratings system doesn't particularly reflect all the aspects, maybe that's something for pd to consider for the future - having different ratings for sheer stupendousness, skill, accuracy etc.
With regards to the coloured marshmallow - I was actually talking about the wagon wheel we made which hasn't been put up yet. You got one step better than us as we ended up with multicoloured haribo marshmallows (yellow, green, pink etc). They make a funky colour when melted together...

It is now there [Smile] There are a couple of * notes in the wagon wheel writeup that have managed to get separated into the haribo heart writeup though (my fault for submitting both writeups as one I guess!)
all this talk of accuracy... i'm sorry but its a load of cobblers.
until pimping snacks becomes an olympic sport, i couldnt give a rats ass about perfection.
for me, the amount of fun me and my mates had dreaming up the idea of a giant lolly, actually taking the time to make it, rushing home each night
to see if the next bit had frozen, made the whole experience of it totally worth while if it brings a smile to a few peoples faces then great, it's certainly put a smile on my face for a while.
maybe condiser setting up your own website... www.perfectoversizedfoodstuffs.com... but dont worry pimp daddy, it wouldn't be anythin good as pimpthatsnack. although it may attract a few crown green bowls players... its more to their taste
sorry to have a rant, but i think you've totally missed the point of this website.
look what happened to formula one racing when they all became anal about perfection... nobody cares anymore because all the excitement was gone...
Why all the scrapping over the pimps? Come on people, this website is about pimped snacks and having a laugh. I sense a bit of tension here. I think a nice cup of tea and a sit down is in order [Wink]

Mate, the lolly was great and still top of the table! [Wink]
That's all it should be about is people making bigger versions of their favourite - or not so favourite - snacks. It isn't a website dedicated to creating competition between the members and pimpers and it should all be taken as harmess fun - just as PD intended!! [Very Happy]
