Pimp That Snack

Giant Bounty

On the theme of giganticising our pimps, I have today pimped a Giant Bounty.

The shopping list:

6 x 200g Tesco's Smooth Chocolate: £3.00
250g Tesco's Desiccated Coconut £0.62
2 Eggs, about £0.40
A little bit of sugar: £0.01
A Bounty bar for inspiration: £0.38

Six bars of Tesco milk chocolate, a bag of desiccated coconut, caster sugar, two eggs, a till receipt and a Bounty bar for inspiration

The first stage was to melt two bars of chocolate, and create a base. We're familiar with this practice now so I won't bore you with extensive pictures and details, suffice to say a nice chocolatey base was laid and set in the fridge.

A layer of melted chocolate poured into a plastic food tub as the base, with the jug and a second tub behind

The preparation of the coconut was more interesting. Whisk two eggs until light and fluffy, and add copious amounts of coconut and sugar to the mixture. This lets us bind the coconut together in a traditional manner. Then, because its never good to eat raw egg, this mix was placed in the oven for about 5 minutes on high heat.

A tray of the coconut, egg and sugar mixture baking on the middle shelf of the oven

While this is cooking up I melted the remaing 4 bars of chocolate. This chocolate, at 50p per bar is actually a bargain and seriously delicious when melted.

Squares of milk chocolate piled in a glass measuring jug ready to melt, the Bounty wrapper behind

Then we go back to the original set piece and lay the coconut on top:

The baked coconut filling laid on top of the set chocolate base inside the tub

And then the remaining chocolate.

The tub filled to the top with a smooth layer of melted chocolate, ready for the fridge

This was then left in the fridge for about 4 hours and pissed off out to see 'V for Vendetta', which is one of those crap crap films that tries to have meaning but in stark reality is just a bit... crap. :)

Anyway, return home and remove from container:

The finished giant Bounty turned out onto a white board, the words "Pimp My Bounty" moulded into the top, a normal bar beside it for scale

What's this I see on top? Could it be.... textual indentation? Yes indeed, what I failed to mention earlier was that I carefully cut out the words 'Pimp My Bounty' in cardboard, and carefully laid it on the bottom of the original base. When the chocolate set, I mearly peeled off the letters and boom! instant branding. This didn't go *quite* as planned ('pimp' is a little distorted), but I'm very pleased for a first try.

Compared to a normal Bounty, this bastard is big:

The giant bar face up with two ordinary Bounty pieces in front of it

And finally, the cross-section. Note the coconut has a yellowy colour (proper 'bling) because of the egg yolk. If you wish to retain the usual white colour, you can strain the yolk and just use the egg-white.

The giant Bounty cut open to show the white coconut centre next to a bite of the real thing, captioned "The Taste of Pimpadise"

This, is going to take me about a month to eat. It's one big bastard of a Bounty :)
