Pimp That Snack

Cruncher

Crunchies are only one of the best chocolate bars ever, but the CRUNCHER has more honeycomb, more chocolate and plenty of pimping!!

Ingredients:

4 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
2 tsp water
1 tsp baking powder / bicarbonate of soda
1-2 packets of chocolate ?

1. Find a tin (or make another container into one the right size with tin foil)

A green enamel roasting tin lined with foil to form a long narrow trough

2. Grease the tin so that there is more chance of getting the honeycomb out!

3. Put the syrup, water and sugar in a thick based pan and gradually heat until the sugar has dissolved.

Golden syrup poured from a spoon onto sugar in a stainless steel pan

4. Bring to the boil and boil for 7 minutes (according to the recipe) which all looked fine at about 3 – 4 minutes, but then came the burning smell…

5. However, we carried on until 5 minutes and added the bicarbonate of soda – everything looked fine until it sank…and sank so far that when set it had to be chiselled out of the container (so much for greasing it).

6. Anyway, we tried again, this time only boiling it for 3 minutes.

Bubbling amber caramel stirred with a wooden spoon in the pan

7. Greaseproof paper always helps to save chiselling!

The roasting tin relined with greaseproof paper, ready for the hot honeycomb

8. It did sink slightly but we decided to use this as an excuse for extra chocolate!! Hehe

A long slab of set orange honeycomb turned out onto the granite worktop

9. After the honeycomb was hard, we took it out and poured melted chocolate into the bottom of the container.

Melted milk chocolate spread into a long rectangle on greaseproof paper

10. Next the bowl shaped honeycomb was replaced on the chocolate and filled with the rest of the chocolate and a second packet, letting it overflow to cover the sides!! Mmmm

Melted chocolate poured over the honeycomb bar sitting in its paper-lined tin

11. After setting in the fridge, the CRUNCHER was finished – time to eat it …….

The finished giant bar cut open on a board, golden honeycomb inside, small chunk alongside
