  • 100g butter
  • 200g plain flour
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 150g icing sugar
  • Red food colouring
  • Yellow food colouring

The account gives every quantity and an estimated ingredient cost of £8. The icing sugar is split between the two colours without saying how much goes to each.

Method recorded

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, eggs and butter in the quantities listed.
  2. Shape the dough into a sausage, lay it onto a pizza tray and flatten it out.
  3. Score the marks on the biscuit with the back end of a knife.
  4. Bake for about 25mins at 190degrees, watching for it turning golden brown.
  5. While the biscuit cools, mix up two colours of icing, quite thick.
  6. Spread one colour all across the base; with the other, draw lines across then drag them down to make the pattern.
